The birth of "open source teaching": LAMS Community launched using .LRN

The LAMS Foundation today launches the LAMS Community, a global community website for teachers and developers who use the revolutionary open source LAMS software. LAMS creates "digital lesson plans" that can be run online with students, as well as shared among teachers. The LAMS Community allows teachers to share and adapt digital lesson plans, and discuss their experiences of using LAMS.

The Learning Activity Management System (LAMS) is one of the more interesting Virtual Learning Environments (VLE) around. LAMS is developed by by Macquarie University in Sydney Australia (www.mq.edu.au). What makes LAMS interesting is that it goes beyond the one-eyed focus on content that is far too common. Instead, LAMS puts the emphasis on the interaction and learning process through the use of Learning Design. Read more about LAMS and Learning Design at the LAMS-International website.

LAMS is distributed as Open Source under a GPL-licence. This means that anyone is free to use it, modify/develop it and redistribute it within the scope of GPL. The GPL software license is combined with a Creative Common license for open content.

A brand new LAMS Community has just been launched and I believe that this will be the place to be for anyone who wants to explore LAMS!
