Deceitful behaviour from Microsoft in ISO-group?

Posted on | August 28, 2007 | 3 Comments

Strange things are going on in the Swedish ISO group (organized by SIS) that is (or was?) processing the Microsoft format Office Open XML (OOXML) request to get the status ISO-standard. According to Dagens Nyheter, and to Patrik Fältström at http://stupid.domain.name/node/382: suddenly, when everything indicated that the Swedish group would vote NO, about 20 new members turned up at the meeting voting YES. If Microsoft is behind this it is definitely a new low-water mark, and a sign of a complete disregard of the (at least reasonably) democratic processes! Beside, it is very strange that it is possible to manipulate Swedish ISO standard processes in this way.

Our group, TK450 (working with ISO IEC/JTC1/SC36:Information technology for learning, education and training), recommended a NO-vote for several reasons. Two of the most important reasons are that the process leading to the OOXML specification is not an open process, and that there are no working implementations, as there are with Open Document , which is already an ISO-standard that was developed within the framework of OASIS.

Joakim Jardenberg writes about in (in Swedish) on his blog , where he has also published a list of the new companies at.

Kan inte TK450 framföra ett formellt klagomål? Detta undergräver ju hela SIS’ trovärdighet, inklusive TK450

Jag håller med. Det är förödande för SIS. De framstår som en riktg bananrepublik.
